Hey, everybody! I’ve been trying to figure out how to make this video for a while now, and to be honest, I still don’t know if I’m ready to say these words. But after a lot of thought, prayer, and some very difficult conversations with myself and my family, I’ve made the decision to retire from doing hair in Chicago. And believe me, this has not been an easy decision. For over 20 years, doing hair has been so much more than a career for me. It’s been a huge part of my life, and so many of you have become a huge part of my story. I’ve watched some of you graduate, get married, have children, change careers, and go through all kinds of life changes. We’ve laughed together, cried together, shared stories, exchanged advice, and probably discussed a few things that should NEVER leave the salon chair! And somewhere along the way, you stopped feeling like clients and started feeling like family. When I moved to Texas, I made the commitment to continue flying back and forth to Chicago because I genuinely loved what I did, and more importantly, I loved the people I was doing it for. But the truth is, the traveling has become increasingly difficult, exhausting, and expensive. Between flights, transportation, salon expenses, and the time spent away from home, it’s become a lot to carry. And while I’ve spent so many years making sure everybody else’s hair was taken care of, I’ve come to realize that I also need to make sure I’m taking care of myself and being present for my own family. My family needs me home. And at this stage in my life, I need to be there for them. That doesn’t make this decision any easier. I want each and every one of you to know how much your loyalty has meant to me. Especially those of you who continued to support me after I moved away. You worked around my travel schedule, adjusted your appointments, trusted me with your hair, and continued showing up for me. You have no idea how much that has meant. You’ve helped me build a career, a business, and a lifetime of beautiful memories. And I will never take that for granted. I’m also working to make this transition as smooth as possible because I want you to continue receiving the care you deserve. So while this chapter of my life in Chicago is coming to an end, please know that the love, appreciation, and relationships we’ve built are not ending. I may be putting down my Chicago flat irons, but I’m definitely not forgetting the people who helped me become JTheHairchitect. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives, for trusting me with your hair, for supporting my dreams, and for giving me a career filled with so much love and laughter. I love you guys.
